TOKYO Olympic Games brought us the new meaning of Sports, also as the new Olympic Motto “Faster, Higher, Stronger,Together”. We’ve seen all those inspiring moments of athletes’ spirit, while the power of sport, Stronger Together, kept sparkling our life by what those athletes have done. The Goddess of Weightlifting, KUO, Hsing-Chun, from Chinese Taipei, is the best example for us.

The Gold medalist of Women’s 59kg of Weightlifting in Tokyo, KUO Hsing-Chun is also the flag bearer of Chinese Taipei for the Olympic Opening Ceremony. She not only set the 3 new Olympic Record, snatch, clean and jerk, and combined lifts, on the field, but build the great model of athlete social responsibility.

KUO was born as an underweight baby in 1993, the name of “Hsing-Chun”(the sound of this name is similar to the “Survivor”) came from this too, but thanked to the effort and kind care by the hospital, she grew up in good health and became an athlete. Having tried athletics, basketball, she finally chose weightlifting after she won the first gold in National High School Games in 2009. She then got the silver in the Youth Olympic Games in 2010. London 2012 was her first Olympic experience with 6th in Women’s 58kg, afterwards with the Bronze in Rio 2016.

Kuo won her first Olympic Bronze in Rio 2016, and got the gold in Jakarta-Palambang 2018.

Nevertheless, she had her own ups and downs. The unexpected injuries, happening before Incheon 2014, brought severe influence on her right leg. The stress and fear came to her time to time, but KUO keeps looking on the bright side, “Believing all the obstacles are the greatest arrangement by God”, and trusts in herself.

With the Gold medals from Asian Games, Universiade, and the Olympics, she received the prize money from government throughout her weightlifting journey, nonetheless, she gets back to the society, especially her hometown-Taitung. Noticing the shortage of ambulance, KUO donates more than 1.8 million NTD to the local hospital anonymously, as well as expresses her appreciation to medical personnel. Also, she goes back to her alma mater, providing the scholarship and the fee of exercise equipment, helping those little sportsmen to keep chasing their dreams.

To motivate more teenagers with her sportsmanship, KUO joins the Olympic Spirit Touring Lecture, which is hosted by Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, and aiming at spreading the Olympic Value through education. The love for sports is shown by KUO’s expression and gesture throughout the persevering sharing. Moreover, the feedback of those teenagers shows how touched they had been by KUO’s words, by those encouraging moments.

All those encouraging moments and stories show the positivity and hope. The world is united by sports once again. The faith of “Stronger Together” is accomplished, keeping passing through and amazing the world from all the effort by all these athletes.
